Vero Next Gen: A new consultant training program at our Vietnam office

Vero is pioneering Vero Next Gen, a new training program for young communication consultants, at our office in Ho Chi Minh City. From October to December 2020, we will open our doors to the most ambitious and promising young communications talents in Vietnam for a tailor-made training and internship experience. The program, which Vero plans to hold twice annually, is based on the “career kickstart” model, in which young talent are given unique access to mentorship, training, hands-on experiences, and networking.

Vero Next Gen places a strong emphasis on providing a hands-on experience: participants will be able to attend all client, media, and influencer conversations, both internal and external – including the kinds of meetings agencies in Vietnam often forbid trainees from attending.

As a pure strategic communications consultancy, one hundred percent of Vero’s competitive advantage resides in our capacity to attract and retain the best communication consultants in ASEAN,” said Vero ASEAN Director Raphael Lachkar, who is based Vero’s Vietnam office. “Communication consulting is a job you learn by doing, so we feel it is our responsibility to provide high-quality real-world training to the new generation. With that in mind, we chose to launch the Vero Next Gen program in Vietnam first due to the country’s exceptional talent pool of ambitious up-and-coming professionals, in order to give them a chance to learn from our team of international consultants who work with some of the most inspiring international brands in Southeast Asia, spanning across all industries.

It has become standard practice among top consulting firms to include junior employees in high-level conversations, and we believe this practice can include our trainees as well. What better way to learn brand consulting than to be there when the core strategies are devised, negotiated, and launched?

Lachkar said.

The Vero Next Gen initiative has the support of leading academic institutions in Vietnam, including the Vietnam campus of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).

RMIT takes pride in providing a comprehensive, industry-leading learning experience to its students in Vietnam, and such experience is partly built upon structured hands-on training like Vero’s Next Gen initiative,

said My Phuong Tran, Consultant in Industry Relations for RMIT Vietnam.

Vero prides itself on its dynamic and inviting work culture, with a collaborative and international atmosphere at the new office in bustling Da Kao ward, District 1. The Next Gen program is designed to be an exciting and fast-paced opportunity for recent and near-graduates to seriously take their first steps in the communications industry, with practical experience and meaningful assignments that can have a major impact on their career development.

“This program is neither a competition nor a typical internship,” Lachkar said. “Our purpose is to contribute to the development of the next generation of Vietnamese communications professionals. For that reason, we are structuring Vero Next Gen around the goals of each participant. Those who want to focus on their specific interests can do so, while those who want to try their hand at different disciplines and responsibilities under the communication consultant framework will have the opportunity to discover their talents. All will get to see what day-to-day life is really like working in an industry-leading communications agency.”

The Vero Next Gen program is designed to be selective, with only the most promising profiles being shortlisted. Vero is seeking applicants who are curious, ambitious, and driven, with a strong will to learn and the ability to organize within a group. They should have excellent interpersonal communication skills and the capacity to work in an international environment using both English and Vietnamese, as well as a minimum of 3 years’ education in a relevant field. Practical work experience in the communications or creative fields is advantageous but not required.

Interested applicants should record a video of themselves in English (3 minutes maximum length) in which they tackle the following questions:

1. Who are you? Where do you come from and where do you want to go?
2. Why should we choose you? Show tangible evidence of your motivations and abilities.
3. What do you hope and expect the program will bring you?
