ApplyVero Wellness Program FAQ
Q: What is the purpose of Vero’s Wellness Program?
We simply want to support our people in the most meaningful and effective way, and we think wellness – both mental and physical – is a huge priority, especially during COVID-19 when so many people feel isolated.
We also understand that, even at the best of times, the fast-paced agency business can be stressful and potentially overwhelming. We want to be sure that our people have the resources they need to deal with stress when it strikes – for any reason, professional or personal.
Finally, we want to emphasize that mental wellness is a concern for everyone which is worth proactive attention and maintenance, rather than something to ignore until it becomes a crisis.
Q: How does the Vero Wellness Day-Off work?
As part of the Vero Wellness program, every team member is required to take one wellness day per quarter to focus on themselves. It’s up to you how to use it, but we ask that you don’t spend it on work. On these days, we will not expect you to be available in any capacity.
Too often, people set aside much-needed annual leave in order to get their jobs done. While we appreciate the commitment and work ethic behind that decision, we also recognize that it can lead to over-stress and burnout. We believe that part of staying healthy involves making time to focus on your personal life outside of work. We also want to emphasize that when things get too stressful, it’s okay to take a break for the sake of your well-being.
To use your wellness day-off, simply log into your Bamboo account and select the day. As long as it does not conflict with deadlines, you can do this on the same day with no explanation necessary. But of course, it’s also possible to choose your day in advance. For example, if you foresee a time period that will be extra stressful – such as one with back-to-back campaigns – you can plan for a De-Stress Day afterwards. Or if you just want to have a long weekend and use your wellness day-off for this purpose, that is also perfectly fine.
Q: What if I cannot use my wellness day-off? And why is the wellness day-off, compulsory?
We believe that everyone can find at least one day per quarter to take leave, and we really want people to be at their best. Therefore, it will be a responsibility of your team leader to help allocate the workload so that everyone in the team is able to take a Wellness Day-Off – including themselves. So if you feel that your workload is too heavy to take it, you should discuss this with your team leader. If your team cannot find a resolution, then you should bring this to the attention of your office’s human resources department.
We made this day compulsory because we want to emphasize the necessity of self-care, which we believe is a team goal, not just an individual one. A team is only as strong as its members, so when everyone is healthy it’s a massive benefit to the team.
Q: How does the mental health support work?
We want everyone who needs mental health support to be able to access resources, so we are supporting those who want to get in touch with expert counselors and therapists. We will have partnerships with Employee Assistance programs and individual counselors, depending on their availability in each country. We’ll provide each Vero team member with a link to all the relevant details on how to contact these resources and get financial support, all while ensuring the maximum possible privacy.
Q: What should I do if I see that my colleague is under a lot of stress, and I am worried?
Remind them of our Wellness Program resources and encourage them to seek professional advice. If you believe it is a serious issue, you may speak to your HR team about it. We developed the Vero Wellness program just for this purpose, so we hope people in need will use it.
Q: What is Vero doing to support physical wellness?
There is a clear link between nutrition and well-being, which is why we have announced that we will provide healthy snacks and meals at least twice a week. We also know that while not everyone loves to exercise, almost everyone loves to eat – but people can forget to eat well when they’re busy or stressed. So for now, we are focused on providing good nutrition. But if we find later that our team has different preferences, and if it makes sense to change, then we will consider other options.
